A Komodo share trip (open trip) lets you book a private cabin on a scheduled 3D2N boat tour and share the vessel with other travelers. Bali Komodo Boat Tour, part of award-winning Komodo Luxury, runs weekly departures from Labuan Bajo from USD 215 (IDR 3.55M) per person — 91% of our guests choose this format.
You keep your own private, air-conditioned cabin with an en-suite bathroom. What you share is the boat itself — the sundeck, the dining area, the crew, the guide, and the fixed itinerary. That is the entire concept of a shared Komodo boat tour, and it is the single most effective way to see Padar Island, Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons, and Manta Point without paying for a full private charter. Based on 858+ confirmed bookings across our fleet, roughly 9 out of 10 travelers pick this option, and most of them are couples and solo travelers from Italy, France, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, the US, and Australia.
This page explains exactly how a komodo open trip works, what it costs per cabin class in 2026, the departure schedule, the full 3-day itinerary, and how it compares with a private Komodo boat charter. If you are still comparing formats, our complete Komodo boat tour guide covers every option side by side.
What Is a Komodo Share Trip (Open Trip)?
“Open trip” is the Indonesian term for a group departure that anyone can join — the trip is “open” to individual bookings rather than reserved for one party. In Komodo National Park, the format has evolved well beyond backpacker deck-boats. On our phinisi liveaboards, an open trip komodo booking works like a boutique cruise:
- You book a cabin, not a seat. Every cabin is private and lockable, with air conditioning and a private bathroom. Couples share one cabin; solo travelers can book a single cabin or a twin share.
- The departure date is fixed. Boats leave Labuan Bajo on a published schedule, which is what keeps the per-person price low — the operating cost of the vessel, crew, fuel, and ranger fees is divided across 10–16 guests.
- The itinerary is fixed too. A proven 3D2N route covers all six signature stops: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, and Kalong Island at sunset.
- All meals, snorkeling gear, guides, and hotel transfers in Labuan Bajo are included. The only standard exclusion is the Komodo National Park entrance and ranger fee of IDR 650,000 (~USD 40) per person, paid locally.
The result is the best cost-per-experience ratio in the park. A private 3D2N charter starts around USD 3,950 for the whole boat; a share trip cabin starts at USD 215 per person on the same waters, the same islands, the same dragons.

Departure Schedule: How Weekly Open Trips Work
Every share trip departs from Labuan Bajo harbor, a one-hour flight from Bali (DPS–LBJ, roughly USD 60–120 each way). Our vessels run on rotating weekly schedules:
- Standard pattern: departures every Friday and Monday morning during high season (April–November), with additional mid-week dates on Malca during peak months (July–August).
- Boarding: 09:00–10:00 at Labuan Bajo harbor. We collect you from your hotel or directly from Komodo Airport — morning flights from Bali connect comfortably with same-day boarding.
- Return: around 11:00–12:00 on day three, in time for afternoon flights back to Bali.
- Low season (December–March): departures continue but are weather-dependent; we consolidate guests onto fewer, larger vessels for stability and safety.
Because cabins are limited — Malca and Ayvara each carry a small number of cabins per departure — popular dates in July, August, and around Easter sell out 4–8 weeks ahead. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and we confirm live availability within hours: chat with our team.
The 3D2N Share Trip Itinerary
This is the route 91% of our guests sail. The full stop-by-stop version, with timings and photography notes, lives on our Komodo boat tour 3D2N page — here is the shape of it:
Day 1 — Labuan Bajo, Kelor Island, Rinca, Kalong Sunset
Board mid-morning and cruise out past the harbor islands. First stop is Kelor Island for a short, steep hike with a postcard view and your first snorkel. In the afternoon we visit Rinca Island — home to the same Komodo dragons as Komodo Island itself, often with fewer crowds — for a ranger-guided trek. The day ends anchored off Kalong Island, where tens of thousands of flying foxes pour out of the mangroves at sunset. Dinner and your first night on board.
Day 2 — Padar Sunrise, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point, Taka Makassar
The signature day. We wake you before dawn for the Padar Island sunrise hike — the three-bay viewpoint that defines every Komodo photo you have ever seen. Back on board for breakfast, then Pink Beach for snorkeling over some of the healthiest coral in the park. Midday is Komodo Island itself: a guided trek with park rangers to see the dragons in the wild. In the afternoon, we drift-snorkel Manta Point, where reef manta rays with 3–4 meter wingspans feed in the current, and finish on the sandbar of Taka Makassar. Sunset dinner on deck.
Day 3 — Kanawa or Sebayur Snorkel, Return to Labuan Bajo
A final relaxed morning snorkel at Kanawa or Sebayur Island, brunch on board, and arrival back in Labuan Bajo around midday — comfortable timing for an afternoon flight to Bali.
Coming from Bali? Here Is How It Connects
Most of our guests start in Bali. The standard route is the one-hour flight from Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ), then straight onto the boat — we handle the airport pickup. Our Bali to Komodo guide walks through flights, timing, and how to build the trip into a Bali holiday without losing a day.
Prefer to sail the whole way? Our 4D3N Lombok-to-Komodo route on Lady Grace (IDR 22,500,000 per cabin for 2 guests) crosses the Flores Sea via Moyo and Satonda, with an optional whale shark swim at Saleh Bay, and ends inside Komodo National Park. Details on the Bali to Komodo boat tour page.
Share Trip vs Private Charter vs Day Trip
Three honest comparisons, from a team that operates all three:
- Share trip (this page): best value per experience. From USD 215 for the full 3D2N route. You trade schedule flexibility for price — departure dates and itinerary are fixed. Ideal for couples, solo travelers, and small groups of friends.
- Private charter: the whole boat is yours. Riley runs IDR 65–68M (~USD 3,950–4,150) for 4–9 guests over 3D2N; luxury vessels like Catnazse range IDR 103–148M. The itinerary bends to you — worth it for families and groups of 6+, where per-person cost approaches share-trip level anyway. See also our luxury Komodo boat tour collection.
- Day trip by speedboat: from IDR 1,450,000 (~USD 90). All the headline stops compressed into one long day — no sunrise at Padar, no night at anchor. Good if your schedule truly allows only one day; if you can spare two nights, the 2D1N option or this 3D2N share trip is a different experience entirely.
Why Book Your Open Trip with Bali Komodo Boat Tour
Bali Komodo Boat Tour is part of Komodo Luxury, a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice winner in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with 10+ years operating in Komodo National Park, a 4.8-star rating across 152 Google reviews, and 858+ confirmed bookings. That scale matters on a share trip specifically:
- Guaranteed departures. Because our open trips fill reliably, we do not cancel departures for low occupancy the way small resellers do.
- Own fleet, not brokered boats. Malca, Ayvara, and Naturalia are vessels we operate and maintain — see them on the boats page. You board the boat you booked.
- Licensed crew and rangers. Every trek inside the park is led by certified rangers; every vessel carries life jackets, first-aid, and communications equipment as standard.
- Simple, transparent payment. 50% deposit confirms your cabin; the balance is due 14 days before departure. No hidden “boat fee” surprises at the harbor — read more about us.
How to Book Your Komodo Share Trip
Booking takes three steps and usually under a day:
- Send us your dates and preferred cabin class on WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or through the booking page.
- We confirm live availability and hold your cabin, then send a secure payment link for the 50% deposit.
- Pay the balance 14 days before departure. We send your boarding details, packing list, and arrange your Labuan Bajo airport or hotel pickup.
Best travel window: April to November, when seas are calm and visibility peaks. July–August and Easter cabins sell out first — if your dates fall there, book 1–2 months ahead.

Komodo Share Trip FAQ
How much does a Komodo open trip cost?
A 3D2N Komodo share trip starts at USD 215 (IDR 3.55M) per person in a Malca sharing cabin, rising to USD 400–515 for Ayvara Superior to Master cabins and USD 760 for a Naturalia suite. Add the Komodo National Park fee of IDR 650,000 (~USD 40) per person, paid locally. Meals, gear, guide, and transfers are included.
Do I share a cabin with strangers on a share trip?
No — you share the boat, not your cabin. Couples get a private double cabin; solo travelers can book a single cabin or opt for a twin share to save money. Every cabin on our open trip vessels is air-conditioned with a private bathroom. Only common areas like the sundeck and dining space are shared.
How do I join a Komodo open trip from Bali?
Fly Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) — about one hour, USD 60–120 each way. Take a morning flight and we collect you at Komodo Airport for same-day boarding around 09:00–10:00. The boat returns by midday on day three, in time for an afternoon flight back to Bali. We coordinate the timing when you book.
When is the best time for a Komodo share trip?
April through November is the best season — calm seas, dry weather, and 20–30 meter snorkeling visibility. Manta sightings are reliable year-round at Manta Point. December to March departures still run but are weather-dependent. July, August, and Easter are peak demand, so book those dates 1–2 months in advance to secure your preferred cabin.
What is included in the 3D2N share trip price?
All meals and drinking water on board, your private cabin, snorkeling equipment, an English-speaking guide, all island stops (Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Kalong), and Labuan Bajo hotel or airport transfers. Excluded: the IDR 650,000 (~USD 40) park and ranger fee, alcoholic drinks, and crew tips.
Can the boat cancel my open trip departure?
Departures with Bali Komodo Boat Tour are effectively guaranteed — because 91% of our 858+ bookings are share trips, our scheduled boats fill consistently and we do not cancel for low occupancy. The only exception is an official harbor-master weather closure, in which case we rebook you free of charge or refund your deposit in full.
