Three Real Options
Bali to Komodo: Every Way to Get There (Fly, Boat, Tour)
The fastest way from Bali to Komodo is a 1-hour flight from Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) from about USD 60–120, then a boat tour into Komodo National Park. We also run a 4D3N boat journey from Lombok — a slower, more scenic route that includes swimming with whale sharks in Saleh Bay.

Quick Answer
Komodo National Park is not next door to Bali — it sits roughly 450 km east, across Lombok, Sumbawa, and a long chain of islands, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. There is no bridge, no direct public ferry that most tourists would enjoy, and no day trip from Bali that is honestly worth doing.

Bali to Komodo: Your 3 Options
Let us break down each one honestly, including what it really costs, how long it really takes, and the mistakes we see travelers make every season.
Option 1: Fly DPS → LBJ + boat tour
Most travelers — fastest and easiest. About a one-hour flight, typically USD 60–120 one way (IDR 950,000–1,900,000), with several flights per day in high season. Book flights 2–6 weeks ahead in high season. If your Komodo boat departs in the morning, fly into Labuan Bajo the evening before — a delayed same-day flight is the single most common reason travelers miss their boat.
Option 2: 4D3N boat via Lombok (Saleh Bay whale sharks)
Adventurers who want the journey itself. Our 4D3N Lombok-to-Komodo journey aboard Lady Grace sails east along Sumbawa toward Komodo National Park, with the option to swim with whale sharks in Saleh Bay — something no flight passenger ever sees — plus Moyo, Satonda’s crater lake, and remote Sumbawa coastline before you even reach the famous sites.
Option 3: Overland + public ferries (DIY)
Hardcore backpackers only — not recommended. Public ferry Bali (Padang Bai) → Lombok, bus across Lombok, ferry → Sumbawa, a very long bus across Sumbawa (8–10 hours), ferry Sape → Labuan Bajo (7–9 hours). Schedules change without notice, seas in the Sape Strait can be rough, and once you reach Labuan Bajo you still need a boat tour to enter the park.
Unless slow overland travel is the point of your trip, the money you save is small compared to the days you lose. If your budget is the driver, a smarter play is flying on a promo fare and joining a Komodo share trip, where shared cabins keep the 3D2N price at USD 215.
Total Cost Example
Bali to Komodo by Flight + 3D2N Tour
That is a realistic all-in figure for a comfortable, well-run 3-day Komodo experience starting and ending in Bali.
| Trip | Price (USD) | Price (IDR) |
|---|---|---|
| Return flight DPS–LBJ | USD 120–240 | IDR 1.9M–3.8M |
| 3D2N shared-cabin tour (Malca) | USD 215 | IDR 3,550,000 |
| Komodo National Park fee | ~USD 40 | IDR 650,000 |
| Total per person | ~USD 375–495 | ~IDR 6.1M–8M |
The Komodo National Park entrance fee is IDR 650,000 (~USD 40) per person, covering park entry, trekking with a mandatory ranger, and snorkeling sites. On our tours the ranger arrangements are handled for you.
Which Should You Choose?
Match the Route to Your Days
| What Matters | What most people do wrong | What we recommend |
|---|---|---|
| 2–4 days | Trying to squeeze in the sea crossing | Fly to Labuan Bajo, do the day trip or 2D1N. Fast, spectacular, efficient. |
| 4–6 days | Booking two separate day trips | Fly to Labuan Bajo, take the 3D2N liveaboard. This is the sweet spot and our most-booked itinerary by far. |
| 6+ days, love the sea | Flying both ways and missing Sumbawa | Take the 4D3N boat via Lombok with the Saleh Bay whale sharks, then fly back to Bali from Labuan Bajo. The best of both worlds. |
| Strict backpacker budget | Taking the ferries | Hunt a promo flight fare and book a shared-cabin open trip — not the ferries. |
Choosing the right Komodo boat tour matters more than any other decision in this trip. The dragons live on Komodo and Rinca islands, the mantas glide at Manta Point, and Padar’s three-bay viewpoint is reachable only by sea.
Practical Details
When to Go, and What Our Guests Ask About
The best season is April to November — the dry season, when seas are calm, visibility for snorkeling is at its best, and Padar’s hills glow gold. July and August are peak months; book flights and cabins 1–2 months ahead.
December to March brings rain and rougher seas; tours still run on many days, but the 4D3N Lombok crossing is best kept to the dry season. Manta rays are present year-round at Manta Point, with especially strong numbers December–February.
We are not a reseller. Bali Komodo Boat Tour is part of Komodo Luxury, an operator running its own fleet in these waters for over ten years. That means the boat you see is the boat you get, crews who know every anchorage from Saleh Bay to Padar, and one accountable team from your first message in Bali to the moment you step off the boat.
- Domestic flights include a standard checked-bag allowance; pack soft bags for the boat, and many guests leave a suitcase at their Bali hotel.
- Labuan Bajo's airport is 10 minutes from the harbor — we coordinate pickup timing with your flight.
- ATMs and phone signal exist in Labuan Bajo; inside the park, signal is patchy. Download offline maps and tell people you will be off-grid.
- We confirm your spot with a 50% deposit, with the balance due 14 days before departure (H-14).
