What It Actually Is

Pink Beach means Pantai Merah on Komodo Island inside Komodo National Park. The pink tone comes from a mix of white sand and crushed red foraminifera shells.

Location: the southeast side of Komodo Island, usually combined with Komodo Village or the Loh Liang ranger station for seeing Komodo dragons.

Activities: swimming, snorkeling over shallow reefs, light beach walking, a short viewpoint hike.

Best light for colour: late morning to mid-afternoon when the sun is higher; the pink hue is less intense under heavy clouds or late evening.

Typical stop length: 1–2 hours on standard itineraries. There are a couple of other beaches in the region sometimes labelled "pink", but this Komodo Island beach is the core reference point.

Day Trip Itinerary Featuring Pink Beach

Day trips are fast-paced, with an early hotel pick-up in Labuan Bajo around 06:00–06:30. Stop 1 is Padar Island for a sunrise or early-morning hike to the viewpoint (around 20–40 minutes each way depending on fitness). Stop 2 is Komodo or Rinca for a ranger-guided walk to spot Komodo dragons and other wildlife. Stop 3 is Pink Beach for snorkeling and beach time, roughly 1–1.5 hours. Stop 4 is Manta Point or Taka Makassar, sea-condition dependent: a drift snorkel with manta rays or shallow sandbank relaxation. Return cruising to Labuan Bajo, arriving around 17:00.

Overnight itineraries give Pink Beach a longer, calmer slot, and pair it with Padar Island, Komodo or Rinca for the dragons, Manta Point, Kelor Island, and sometimes Kanawa or Siaba Besar. 2D1N departs around 10:00 and returns about 18:00 the next day; 3D2N departs around 10:30 on day 1 and returns 12:00–13:00 on day 3.

Longer Bali–Komodo Liveaboard via Benoa Harbour

If you want the journey itself to be a major part of the experience, most Bali–Komodo liveaboards and small expedition ships use Benoa Harbour in South Bali as their main embarkation point, boarding around 15:00 and ending in Labuan Bajo around 08:00. These are one-way expeditions that slowly work east from Bali, passing Lombok, Moyo, Sumbawa and various islets in the Flores Sea. Pink Beach is usually visited in the second half of the cruise, once the vessel is properly inside Komodo National Park.

Travel-time note: state passenger ships such as Tilongkabila and Binaiya take around 36 hours Benoa to Labuan Bajo just for the sea crossing. That gives you an idea why genuine Bali–Komodo–Pink Beach cruises are planned as multi-day liveaboards, not quick hops.

There are two very different styles of trip here: a longer Bali–Komodo liveaboard that eventually reaches Pink Beach as part of a multi-island expedition, or a short Komodo cruise from Labuan Bajo, reached by a quick Bali–Labuan Bajo flight.

For most travellers the second is the right answer: the flight is under an hour with several daily departures, and the sailing distances inside the park are compact.
